we were here

Hey, we just found out that we were featured on Ohdeedoh last week! This is very exciting news considering it was for the change pads covers I sewed up:) I'm thrilled about all the positive feedback I've received on them...it makes me feel like all of my sewing has not been in vain! And on that note, stay tuned because I will be posting a small tutorial on how to make them very soon, so get your fabric ready :) !!!

birthday love

Here at the Little Papercuts house birthday season starts in November and doesn't end until the end of January, with Christmas falling smack dab in the middle of it all. With the addition of the mini papercut, party season now begins in October. With that said, and coming of the heels of my eldest daughter's 8th birthday party, I've been thinking about birthdays gone by. One of my favourites was inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

Our invitations, made in the likeness of Alison as Alice in Wonderland, were shaped like teapots, and we encouraged all the little girls to dress up as their favourite princesses and join us in Alison's Wonderland for a Mad Hatter Tea Party.

The table was set with mismatched tea pots, pastel coloured cake stands and serving dishes filled with finger sandwiches, veggies and dip, pizza, popcorn, chips, cookies, cupcakes, lots of cake and tea (pink lemonade and apple juice)! Polka dotted and striped mini tea cups and saucers (that were really espresso cups that came in a set of 4), held mini cupcake shaped lip glosses, hair clips, nail polish and candy and did double duty as place settings and favours. The paper lanterns scattered overhead and gigantic paper flowers added to the whimsical atmosphere of the room as did the life-sized characters found throughout.

We were joined by the Knave of Hearts, the Cheshire Cat, the Queen of Hearts, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, and a curious card attempting to paint some of the roses red :) The White Rabbit also made an appearance with a game of 'Pin the clock on the White Rabbit'.

A beading station, where the girls make necklaces and bracelets, provided tons of entertainment and more goodies to add to their loot bags. The afternoon was topped off with a slice of topsy turvy birthday cake (a gift from a generous aunt), and it definitely did not disappoint! I'd have to say this party was sweet and fun, just like the little girl it was for:)

Our party was the featured party on Ohdeedoh. You can see it here.

big thanks

Last week I was lucky enough to have our nursery featured on a few blogs, so I'd like to say a big 'Thank You' to Little Miss Heirlooms, Kenziepoo and Ohdeedoh, not to mention all of the wonderful people who commented. The nursery love is very much appreciated!

what a week

This past week has been crazy busy for us. First of all, a few weeks ago the lovely Spearmintbaby and Space for Inspiration, both contacted me asking if I would like a nursery feature on their blogs...to which I answered an emphatic YES!!! But seeing as the only completed part of my nursery nook is the actual crib, I requested a little bit of time to complete the room, or nursery wall, before they posted any pics. Well you can imagine my surprise last week when I noticed that images of my room were being featured on Kenziepoo and Ohdeedoh. The response has been fabulous and I've been bombarded with tons of questions regarding our space for the mini papercut, as well as inquiries about items in the mini muffin's nursery. I am DYING to finish our room, but my hands are tied at the moment since my hubby doesn't want me to do any heavy lifting, and he's been pretty busy himself. I have my fingers crossed that by the end of the week our nursery nook will be DONE!!!

nursery inspiration

Shortly after finding out the sex of our baby (we're having a girl) I started thinking about how to decorate the corner of our room that would serve as the 'nursery'. Originally I thought I would stick to something in the browns and oranges, due in fact to whatever colours we chose for baby bedding would have to be some how incorporated into the overall design of our bedroom. Frilly pink is definitely NOT on the agenda! But after searching for ideas online, I found the colour scheme that I seemed to gravitate towards the most was grey, yellow and white. The combination of these colours is fresh and modern, without being too sweet or juvenile. Over the last few months I've found inspiration from websites like ohdeedoh, tinydecorblog and projectnursery, just to mention a few.

One nursery that really stood out in my mind belonged to Jenna Lyons, SVP of women's at J.Crew. Her home was featured in the pages of Domino Magazine. Although her nursery is yellow, white and black, I'm too chicken to paint my bedroom black, I immediately fell in love with the room.

What do you think...fresh and modern or boring?
